How we handle external mastic in Newick

Joints between dissimilar materials, like brick against render or concrete against a steel frame, see movement from both sides. A flexible exterior sealant takes up that movement where mortar or filler would crack. If you are dealing with joints pointed up with cement by mistake and panel joints letting water in, we can help, whatever the surface.

Around Newick, older buildings can be stone, brick or timber-framed, many with extensions added later. The joints where those materials meet are the weak points, and they need the right sealant at the right depth.

Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

What we’re called out for in Newick

If plants are growing out of a joint, the sealant has generally failed or was never there. Roots and dirt hold water against the wall.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Plants rooting in failed movement joints
  • Joints with sealant missing in places
  • Hard, crazed mastic that has stopped moving
  • Panel joints letting water in

If you live in an older home near Zion Chapel, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep.

10 questions to ask before booking

What sealant work can’t fix

In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • Cracked brickwork or render that needs a builder or plasterer
  • Movement that’s more than a sealant joint can take
  • Rising or penetrating damp from elsewhere in the wall

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

What we seal

  • Façade panels
  • Render & cladding joints
  • Copings & trims
  • Concrete & block
  • Joints between brick and frames
  • Brickwork movement joints

Aftercare tips

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Never let anyone fill a movement joint with mortar
  • Get split or bare joints resealed while the damage is small
  • Avoid pressure-washing directly into sealant joints
  • Tell anyone working on the walls about the movement joints

Avoid pressure-washing straight into the joints. High-pressure water can lift the edges over time.

An open movement joint lets rain into the wall every time it pours. Over time it can mean damp inside, stained render or frost-damaged brick.

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Outside joints around Newick

Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

Letting a property close to Uckfield station? Then split movement joints are easy to miss on a rental until damp shows inside. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Newick Church of England Primary School, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.

Your questions about external mastic in Newick

Do you cover smaller places like Newick?

Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

I let a flat near Uckfield station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Just list everything you need and we will quote it together.

What information do you need?

A short description and the location. If we need more, we will ask.

Do I need to be at home?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Will there be a smell?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Ventilation helps.

Do you hold any approvals?

What affects the quote in Newick

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You will know the price before we begin.

Asking for a quote

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The rough size of the job
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

For external mastic in Newick, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and we will agree the price before any work begins.

Leave it or put it right?

Sealing over the top of old mastic does not hold for long. New sealant doesn’t bond well to old, weathered sealant, so we always take the old sealant out. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Newick, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

What we do, step by step

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access. Somewhere as small as Newick, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, the joints are inspected and the access agreed.
  2. Every bit of old sealant and any mortar or debris is cut out.
  3. The faces are brushed clean and primed where the product requires it.
  4. Backing rod sized to the joint goes in to set the depth.
  5. The exterior sealant is applied, tooled and checked along its length.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
