Need bathroom resealing in Southfields?

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Southfields

Kitchens need the same care as bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback all take splashes every day, and water behind a laminate worktop can make it swell. We reseal them with a kitchen-suitable silicone, matched to the worktop where it’s on show. If you have water getting behind the bath panel and lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt, we can help, on kitchen worktops & upstands, shower trays & enclosures and baths alike.

For a small place like Southfields, bathroom resealing is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up

Treat the new bead gently when you clean: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Left alone, it soaks into the floor, the wall behind the tiles or the ceiling below. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.

Leave it or put it right?

Mould removers can fade the surface of a stained bead, but mould that has grown into the sealant tends to return. Cutting it out and resealing with anti-fungal silicone is the fix that lasts. Around Southfields, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Doing several joints on one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • The product the joint needs
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The size of the job
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What to tell us for a quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The address or postcode of the job

Need a quote? Please phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the job. We’ll explain what we’d do and give you a clear price before we start.

What sealant work can’t fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint

If you are not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer.

How it works

We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. Once we have agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. Somewhere as small as Southfields, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

What bathroom resealing looks like in Southfields

Southfields is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

Schools such as Orsett Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. For an older house near a landmark such as St Giles & All Saints Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. If you let a flat or house near Stanford-Le-Hope station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.
