Bathroom resealing for Northease homes and businesses

What bathroom resealing looks like in Northease

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you live in an older home near St Peter's Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Schools such as Priory School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Northease is about 3 miles south of Lewes, in East Sussex. We carry out bathroom resealing for householders, landlords and businesses in Northease and nearby, as part of our work across East Sussex. Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Northease

Sealant that is mouldy, cracked or peeling is worth sorting before it lets water through. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a photo of the joints, and we will send you a clear quote before any work starts. If you’re dealing with lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt and damp behind the bath or under the tray, we can put it right, on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & upstands and sinks & splashbacks alike.

In a village or hamlet like Northease, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

Big or small, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

How the job changes by surface

Wet rooms

Wet room floors move slightly as they’re used, so the corners need a flexible seal, not grout. Where grout in a corner has cracked, we can replace it with sealant.

Shower trays & enclosures

Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, following the enclosure maker’s guidance on which side to seal.

Why it’s worth doing now in Northease

A clean new bead makes a room look cared for, which matters if you’re letting a property or selling it. A smeared, uneven DIY bead does the opposite, and it’s harder to put right later. In a small place like Northease, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Northease

Older sealant shrinks and hardens. Along worktops it tends to pull back from the wall, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Hot pans and harsh cleaners don’t help.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles
  • Two layers of silicone, both failing

Rented homes near Southease station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it

The process

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we’ll take it from there. The job generally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. In a small place like Northease, access is usually the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

How to get a quote

Advice

Should I try it myself first?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Aftercare tips

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, where it can make the board swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.

When something else is needed

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Northease: your questions answered

Will you come out to Northease?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is Northease in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Northease is part of that. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and let us know what needs doing.

What sealant do you use?

Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we will tell you what we’re using.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so the bead comes out, the joint is treated and new anti-fungal silicone goes in.

Where are you based?

Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, so it peels away and hides mould and water. We always take the old sealant out completely.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We’ve worked for hotels, offices and other businesses, and we’re fully insured.

Will you leave a mess?

Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.
