Bathroom resealing in Curridge, done properly

Kitchens need the same care as bathrooms. Worktop upstands, sink edges and splashback joints all take splashes every day, and water behind a laminate worktop can make it swell. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. Typical jobs include water getting behind the kitchen upstand and black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off, across basins & vanity units, shower trays & enclosures and kitchen worktops & upstands.

Being in a small place like Curridge makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

What happens on the day

We bring everything the job needs with us. Once we have agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. In a small place like Curridge, access is normally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Bathrooms and kitchens in Curridge

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

Rented homes near Newbury Racecourse station change hands often, and a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. Homes close to Holy Trinity include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Leave it or put it right?

Sorting it now is quick: it takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Wait for a leak and you may be looking at panels off, drying out and redecorating too. In a small place like Curridge, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first and send you a clear quote before work begins.

What you get with us

  • A choice of colours where the product allows
  • Old sealant always removed completely
  • One-year guarantee on every job
  • More than 20 years in sealant work

How the job changes by surface

Shower trays & enclosures

Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, following the enclosure maker’s guidance on which side to seal.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, since cooking leaves a film that stops silicone sticking. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Access and height
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How much there is to do

Doing several joints on one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

Asking for a quote

You do not need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or send an email if you’d rather. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will explain what’s involved.

What sealant work cannot fix

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Aftercare tips

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Wait for the cure time we give you

Check the sealant now and then. Small splits and lifting ends are easy to catch early, and if anything looks wrong, just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Each shower pushes a little more water through a failed joint. Left alone, it soaks into the floor, the wall behind the tiles or the ceiling below. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Curridge?

Older sealant shrinks and hardens. Along worktops it tends to pull back from the wall, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Hot pans and harsh cleaners do not help.

People normally contact us after spotting one of these:

  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Curridge Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether VAT is included
  • How long the guarantee is
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared

Curridge questions

I let a flat near Newbury Racecourse station. Can you help?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the details for a clear quote.

Is Curridge within the area you cover?

Yes, Curridge is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

What should I tell you?

Tell us what needs doing and where. If we need more, we’ll ask.

How long before the new sealant can get wet?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or follow the cure time we give you.

What colours of sealant can you use?

You are not limited to white: clear, white and colours chosen to suit the room. We can help you pick when we quote.

How long will the resealing take?

A single bath or shower takes about a couple of hours, including cutting out the old sealant. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Of course. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No, and it’s one of the main reasons reseals fail. We cut out all of the old sealant, clean the joint and start again.
