Remedial Sealant in Ridge
Our applicators work in Ridge on removing failed, mouldy or leaking sealant and putting it right. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly.
- A second bead peeling off the first
- Smears and lumps from a botched reseal
- Mould trapped under a layer of silicone
How we handle remedial sealant in Ridge
If a joint fails again and again, something is causing it. Movement, the wrong product or a leak from somewhere else will beat any new bead. We look for the cause before we reseal. If you’re dealing with wide, uneven beads that look worse than the old ones and mould trapped under a layer of silicone, we can help, on shrunken worktop sealant, leaking tray & enclosure joints and failed movement joints alike.
Homes around Ridge are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.
We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Ridge: your questions answered
Can you do remedial sealant in Ridge?
Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Ridge is part of that. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Will you come out to Ridge?
Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
What do you put in the joint?
The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before resealing.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We’re fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.
Is it worth trying it myself?
Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.
Can old silicone be taken off without scratching the tiles?
Yes. We take our time over removal, particularly on softer surfaces like acrylic.
Will there be a smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.
Aftercare tips
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Air the bathroom so the sealant can dry
- Keep bleach and abrasives off the bead
- Find out why the sealant failed first
- Keep movement joints clear of mortar and paint
Do not let anyone seal over it later. New silicone does not bond to old, so the old bead should always come out first.
Do not keep resealing the same joint. Have someone find out why, otherwise the next attempt will fail too.
What happens on the day
We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out. Somewhere like Ridge needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.
- The failure is looked at first, so we know whether it’s sealant, movement or water from elsewhere.
- Each layer is cut out and the residue cleaned off.
- We treat any mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
- We reseal with a product suited to the joint, backed where needed.
- We finish neatly and point out anything that needs another trade.
How to prepare
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

How the job changes by surface
Mouldy bath & shower sealant
Mould that has grown into silicone does not clean out for good. The sealant is cut out completely, the joint treated with a mould remover and dried before anti-fungal sanitary silicone goes in.
Windows & doors
Failed frame mastic is often hard, cracked and in several layers. All of it is cut out and the frame and wall cleaned before backing and resealing.

What remedial sealant looks like in Ridge
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as St Giles' CofE Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Rented homes near Potters Bar station change hands often, and a joint that keeps failing is best fixed properly while the property is empty.

Common problems we fix in Ridge
Even good sealant ages. Over the years it shrinks, hardens and gets colonised by mould, faster where ventilation is poor. At that point it has to come out.
The problems people generally mention when they call are:
- Sealant applied over old sealant that has lifted
- Floor or wall movement joints that have failed
- Sealant peeling off a dusty or damp surface
- Products that weren’t meant for the joint
In the older streets around Church of St Margaret, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.
What to look for in a quote
- How long to leave it before use
- Who turns up on the day
- How hidden problems are handled
- What preparation is included
Honest limits
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- A bath, tray or worktop that moves until it’s properly fixed
- A tray or bath that’s cracked
Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly.
What we seal
