Regrouting in Stambourne, Essex
We cover Stambourne for raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
What regrouting looks like in Stambourne
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
In and around Stambourne, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. If you live in an older home near Parish Church of St Peter and St Thomas, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
Stambourne is in Essex. Jobs in Stambourne get the same care as everywhere else we work: the old material taken out, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee. Across Essex, we cover 644 places, Stambourne among them. For nearby work, see our Chelmsford page (20 miles or so).
Here we cover the CO9 postcode area for regrouting. If you need regrouting at a property on Church Road and Chapel End Way or anywhere close by, our applicators can take on the job. If you are just outside Stambourne, we cover Dyer's End (1 mile south-east), Wesley End (1 mile north), Toppesfield (1 mile south-east), Ridgewell (2 miles north-east) and Oaker Hill (2 miles east). We also work in nearby towns such as Braintree (10 miles south), Saffron Walden (11 miles west), Halstead (8 miles south-east), Great Dunmow (12 miles south-west), Stansted Mountfitchet (15 miles south-west) and Great Notley (11 miles south).

How we handle regrouting in Stambourne
We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, and the corners get fresh silicone. We are often asked to deal with splashback grout that has darkened and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor, on wet rooms, bathroom wall tiles and bathroom floors.
In a village or hamlet like Stambourne, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.
Our work is backed for twelve months, in Stambourne and everywhere else we cover.

What sealant work cannot fix
Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before we start. It won’t solve:
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
- A floor or wall that keeps moving
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.
Surfaces we seal
- Bathroom floors
- Tiled floors
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Wet rooms

What else we do in Stambourne
Why act early in Stambourne
Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They do not fill cracks or stop water and stains often come back through. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. Around Stambourne, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What happens on the day
Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we do not rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. For a village or hamlet like Stambourne, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
Before we arrive
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

DIY sealant or a professional job?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Keeping the joints in good condition
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
- Keep the fan on after showering
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it can harden properly. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and keep the room ventilated.
Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.
Surface by surface
Bathroom wall tiles
Walls outside the shower get less water but grout there still discolours. New grout freshens them up.
Wet rooms
Wet room grout and sealant need to be in good order. We renew both.
