Regrouting in Sheering

Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. Light grout can go darker to hide marks, or the other way round. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. Common call-outs are for shower grout that has worn away and grout stained black or orange that won’t clean, on wet rooms, tiled floors and bathroom wall tiles.

Homes around Sheering are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Aftercare tips

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.

Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout, before the joints open up.

What we’re called out for in Sheering

Grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble and showers that get daily use suffer most.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Shower grout that has worn away
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease

Homes close to Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What your quote should include

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What preparation is included
  • Which colour the sealant will be

FAQs for Sheering

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Sawbridgeworth station?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Can you do regrouting in Sheering?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Sheering is part of that. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing.

Can you change the grout colour?

It can. Because the old grout is raked out, the new colour goes all the way into the joint, not just the surface.

Which products do you use?

Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we will tell you what we’re using.

Do I have to be there?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.

What does regrouting cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. You’ll get a clear quote before we start.

Will it make a mess?

No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Regrouting around Sheering

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you look after a building such as Hatfield Heath Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. If you let a flat or house near Sawbridgeworth station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

What happens on the day

At the end, we look at the finished work together. The visit itself usually takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere as small as Sheering, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Advice

What happens if it’s left?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and the room is out of use for longer. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Sheering, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask a few questions first.

Why book with us

  • Old sealant always removed completely
  • We’re fully insured
  • Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas
  • ARBOMaster approved applicator

Can I do it myself?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Honest limits

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Surface by surface

Bathroom floors

Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.

Shower walls

Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Cracked or missing grout here lets water behind the tiles.
