Signs you need regrouting in Cock Clarks

Movement behind the tiles cracks grout. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, which is why we check the tiles first.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles

Around Cock Clarks, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Our hiring checklist

Regrouting in Cock Clarks, done properly

Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, and the corners get fresh silicone. If you’re dealing with floor grout that won’t come clean and crumbling grout between the tiles, we can put it right.

Being in a small place like Cock Clarks makes no difference to the job itself: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

Different surfaces, different methods

Kitchen splashbacks

A splashback can be regrouted without touching the worktop. The joint along the worktop is resealed with silicone.

Shower walls

A shower wall is soaked daily, so its grout takes the most punishment. It’s often the first place grout washes out.

When it is not the sealant

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Cracked or broken tiles
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom floors

The process

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The visit itself generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, depending on the size of the job. In a small place like Cock Clarks, access is normally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Advice

Questions from Cock Clarks

Is Cock Clarks in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Cock Clarks is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us what needs doing.

Do you work for landlords with property near South Woodham Ferrers station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear price.

Do I need to be at home?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?

Loose or hollow tiles are a sign of a problem behind them. Grout on its own won’t fix that, and we will tell you before any work starts.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, and we never do. It may look fine at first, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes, we often do. The shower usually fails first, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator, and we are fully insured.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We are based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers because they wear grout away.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. By then, new grout alone is not enough, so it’s worth acting early.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
