Gutter sealing in Newgate Street, done properly

Gutter and fascia replacement isn’t our trade, and nor is roofing. What sealant does is close joints and it cannot mend broken brackets, split sections or blocked downpipes. Common call-outs are for trim joints where the sealant has failed and stop ends leaking at the end of a run, across gutter end caps, garage door frames and roofline trims.

Older homes in small places like Newgate Street may be stone, brick or timber-framed, often with later extensions. The joints where those materials meet are the weak points.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Newgate Street and across Hertfordshire.

Leave it or put it right?

Water from a leaking joint hits the same spot every time. Over time that can stain brickwork, mark render and encourage damp so early sealing is worthwhile. In a small place like Newgate Street, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

FAQs for Newgate Street

Do you cover smaller places like Newgate Street?

Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Do you work for landlords with property near Cuffley station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Where are you based?

We’re based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Can you seal fascia and soffit joints?

Yes, it’s a common job. Each joint is cleaned and sealed.

What should I tell you?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Will sealing fix a sagging gutter?

No. If the gutter sags, the joints keep opening so it needs refixing before sealing.

Is it messy?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

How long does the job take?

As a guide, most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Bigger jobs take longer.

Outside joints around Newgate Street

Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day. Historic houses like Wyllyotts Manor (about 4 miles south-west) are a reminder that the area around Newgate Street has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.

If you let a flat or house near Cuffley station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking. Homes close to Church of St Mary Ponsbourne include some older properties, and the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Ponsbourne St Mary's Church of England Primary School, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • Access and height
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Combining jobs into one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits. We will send you a clear quote for the lot.

Helping us quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. Whenever you are ready, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Can I do it myself?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

What the job involves on each surface

Garage door frames

A fresh seal around the frame stops rain getting in.

Soffit joints

Open soffit joints let draughts in. We close them with a suitable sealant.

When something else is needed

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • Water backing up from a blocked pipe
  • Boards that have decayed or split
  • Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Gutter end caps
  • Gutter joints
  • Roofline trims
  • uPVC fascias

How it works

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Somewhere as small as Newgate Street, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter is not cracked or sagging.
  2. The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant will not bond to a wet surface.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. We check the run and clear any debris we find while we are there.

Before we arrive

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Tell us if parking is tricky
