Landlords, agents and businesses in Howwood
Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.
We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we will give you a quote.
Gutter sealing in Howwood
We do not replace gutters, fascias or roofs. What sealant does is close joints; it will not fix a broken bracket, a cracked section or a blocked downpipe. We work on uPVC fascias, gutter end caps and garage door frames, and common reasons people get in touch are earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off and damp patches inside below a leaking gutter.
Older stone buildings need a sealant that suits the stone, not an acetoxy product that can mark or attack it. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.

Howwood questions
I let a flat near Howwood station. Can you help?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can be quoted together. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Is Howwood within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is gutter cleaning part of the job?
We clear what’s around the joints we work on. A full clean of the gutters isn’t part of it.
Can I do it myself?
Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
Do you install new fascias or gutters?
Replacement is not our trade. If a gutter is broken or sagging, we’ll tell you.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. Our applicators cover Howwood, along with the rest of our area.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. We remove it all first.

How it works
The work is kept neat and contained to the joints we are treating, so you can get on with your day. The job usually takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours. Outside jobs in Howwood need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First, we find the drip and check the gutter is not cracked or sagging.
- Old sealant and dirt are removed from the joint.
- The joint is dried, because sealant will not bond to a wet surface.
- Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
- We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.
How to prepare
- Tell us about any water getting in
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Clear the area around the work

Walls and rooflines in Howwood
Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
For landlords with property near Howwood station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside. Around Howwood, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

DIY versus a professional finish
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Leave it or put it right?
You do not need to replace a garage door because rain gets in round the frame. Resealing the frame joint is often enough, if the frame itself is sound. Around Howwood, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.
