Glazing silicone for Hungerford homes and businesses

Why act early in Hungerford

A new conservatory roof is a big job. Where the water is getting in through sealant renewing the joint is the simpler fix. If it’s the roof itself, we’ll tell you. Around Hungerford, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and send you a clear quote before any work starts.

Why Hungerford customers choose us

About our glazing silicone in Hungerford

Conservatory leaks often start at a sealant joint at the glass-to-frame or frame-to-wall joints. We trace the leak to the joint and reseal it, and if it’s something sealant cannot fix, we’ll tell you. We’re often asked to deal with sealant that was laid over old silicone and failed and leaks from the base of a shower screen, across rooflights, glass balustrade bases and shower screens.

Somewhere as small as Hungerford, older homes often have timber frames set in stone or brickwork. Older buildings like these don’t always suit modern silicone, so the sealant has to be chosen to suit the building.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee in Hungerford and across Wokingham.

What we can’t put right

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Frames that have decayed or split
  • Failed flashing around a conservatory
  • Condensation trapped between two panes

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Glass-to-glass joints
  • Shower screens
  • Glass-to-frame joints
  • Conservatory frames
  • Glass balustrade bases
  • Rooflights

The process

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it generally takes a few hours for most jobs. In a small place like Hungerford, access is usually the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, we trace the leak and check it’s coming through a sealant joint.
  2. Old silicone is cut away from the glass and frame without scratching either.
  3. The glass and frame are cleaned and degreased.
  4. Glazing silicone suited to the joint is applied and tooled.
  5. We check the joints and, where safe, run water over them.

What glazing silicone looks like in Hungerford

London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

If you look after a building such as Waltham St Lawrence Primary School, its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

Hungerford is about 4 miles east of Woodley, in Wokingham. Across the RG10 area, our applicators can take on glazing silicone. Hungerford is one of 35 places in Wokingham where we work. We also work in Reading, around 7 miles away.

Different surfaces, different methods

Rooflights

Rooflight glazing joints are cut out and renewed. Leaks from the roof itself need a roofer.

Conservatory frames

Exposed frame joints wear with the weather. Renewed sealant keeps water out.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we’ll quote.

We also work for property managers and facilities teams. Several sites can go on one quote, and we are fully insured for the work.

Signs you need glazing silicone in Hungerford

Sealant laid over old sealant does not last. Many failed joints we see have been topped up rather than cut out, and water gets between the layers.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Leaking glazing joints on a rooflight
  • Stained, discoloured glazing silicone
  • Drips on the inside of a conservatory window
  • Cracked silicone between glass panels

If you let a flat or house near Twyford station, glazing joints are worth checking at the end of a tenancy, before a small leak grows.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
  • What the cure time is
  • Is VAT in the price?
  • The length of the guarantee

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple:

  • Clean glass with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Look over the glazing joints once a year
  • Don’t leave a drip for the next storm
  • Ventilate the conservatory to cut condensation

Use mild cleaners on and around the silicone. Strong solvents can soften or mark it.

Drips or damp near a glazing joint shouldn’t be ignored. The cause may be sealant or another part and we will find out which.
