Trusted glazing silicone in Curbridge

Glazing silicone in Curbridge, done properly

Sealant on glazing does not last for ever. Sun, rain and movement wear it down, and once it cracks, water follows. Resealing puts that right. We work on glass balustrade bases, glass-to-glass joints and conservatory frames, and people most often call us about silicone pulling away from the glass and leaking glazing joints on a rooflight.

Somewhere as small as Curbridge, older homes often have timber frames set in stone or brickwork. Older buildings like these don’t always suit modern silicone, and sometimes a traditional sand mastic is the better choice.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

What glazing silicone looks like in Curbridge

Historic houses like Minster Lovell Hall (about 1.8 miles north) are a reminder that the area around Curbridge has older buildings as well as new. Where a home is older, older frames set in brick or stone need a sealant that suits them, and sometimes that is traditional sand mastic. Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St John the Baptist, frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame.

Curbridge is about 2 miles south-west of Witney, in Oxfordshire. How it works

You don’t need to clear the whole room or building before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the work takes a few hours for most jobs in most cases. Somewhere like Curbridge needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We look at the glazing and agree which joints need resealing.
  2. We cut away the failed silicone.
  3. The surfaces are cleaned with a suitable solvent.
  4. We apply and tool the new silicone.
  5. We inspect the work and test it where we can.

Preparing for the visit

Curbridge questions

Is glazing silicone in Curbridge guaranteed?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Will you come out to Curbridge?

Yes. Curbridge is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Of course. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

Can I do it myself?

You can, for simple jobs. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

When is the sealant fully cured?

Cure times vary by product and the temperature. We tell you how long to leave it before we go.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are fully insured.

Is it messy?

We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

DIY versus a professional finish

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Why it’s worth doing now in Curbridge

Dealing with a leaking shower screen early protects the floor and ceiling. A small leak can reach the floor below before you notice. Older cottages and farmhouses around Curbridge can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

What sealant work cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A sagging or failing conservatory roof
  • Glass that needs replacing
  • Frames that have decayed or split

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we seal

  • Shower screens
  • Glass-to-frame joints
  • Glass-to-glass joints
  • Glass balustrade bases
  • Rooflights
  • Conservatory frames

Keeping the joints in good condition

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Check the silicone on glass every year or so
  • Clean glass with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Keep conservatory gutters clear of leaves
  • Do not leave a drip for the next storm

Gentle products are best near the sealant. Strong solvents can soften or mark it.

A leaking shower screen may not show at first. Water can soak into the floor or reach the room below before you spot it.

Common problems we fix in Curbridge

Some conservatory leaks aren’t sealant at all: broken panels, roof problems and blocked gutters can all let water in. We find the cause before we seal anything.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Leaks from the base of a shower screen
  • Conservatory leaks at frame and glazing joints
  • Cracked silicone between glass panels
  • Stained, discoloured glazing silicone

Schools such as Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School are buildings too, and larger buildings have plenty of frames, and the mastic around each one ages.

What your quote should include

  • The length of the guarantee
  • What the cure time is
  • How hidden problems are handled
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
