External Mastic in Sheepdrove
Our applicators work in Sheepdrove on sealing brickwork movement joints, render, cladding and façade joints. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Moss and dirt in joints with no sealant left
- Rigid filler in a joint that should flex
- Weathered mastic that no longer stretches
What affects the cost of external mastic
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- How many areas need sealing
- Whether the work is at height
- The amount of work
- Mould in or behind the old joints
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.
What to tell us for a quote
Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Please mention:
- Where the property is
- A few pictures by email, if you can
- The rough size of the job
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
Getting a quote is simple: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. Photos by email help us understand the job.
About our external mastic in Sheepdrove
As ARBOMaster approved applicators, we choose exterior sealants to suit the joint and the surfaces. Porous or awkward surfaces are primed where the sealant needs it, and we do not skip that step. We work on joints between brick and frames, brickwork movement joints and render & cladding joints, and common reasons people get in touch are hard, crazed mastic that has stopped moving and sealant that has lost its bond to the brick or render.
Older homes in small places like Sheepdrove may be stone, brick or timber-framed, often with later extensions. The joints where those materials meet are the weak points.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Sheepdrove as everywhere else we work.

Should I try it myself first?
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Looking after it afterwards
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Keep movement joints as flexible joints, not mortar
- Walk round the building once a year and look at the joints
- Keep water from gutters off the wall
- Ask before painting over external sealant
Keep pressure washers away from the sealant. A strong jet can damage the edges of the bead.
Once a joint can’t move, the wall finds another way, often as cracks near the joint. Catch it early and you reduce the risk.
Honest limits
New sealant can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before work begins. It will not solve:
- Failed render or damaged cladding panels
- Cracks in the bricks or render themselves, away from the joints
- Damp that is not coming from the joint
If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will say what we think.

How the visit works
When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access. Somewhere like Sheepdrove needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.
- We look at every joint and agree a colour to suit the wall.
- Failed sealant is removed back to clean, sound faces.
- Backing rod goes in so the sealant can stretch between the two faces.
- Primer is applied wherever the sealant needs it.
- We gun in low-modulus sealant and tool it neatly.
Getting ready for the visit
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Clear the area around the work
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

What we’re called out for in Sheepdrove
Joints sealed without backing rod, or far too deep, rarely last. Sealant bonded to three sides has nowhere to go and tears as soon as the joint widens.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Joints where the bead has come unstuck
- Plants rooting in failed movement joints
- Old sealant gone brittle and cracked
- Movement joints filled with mortar instead of sealant
Around Sheepdrove, as everywhere, external mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.
What your quote should include
- Whether VAT is included
- How much experience the applicator has
- What the cure time is
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
Why it’s worth doing now in Sheepdrove
A properly done movement joint is an even line in a colour that suits the wall. A hurried job with smeared edges and no backing looks worse and fails sooner. In a small place like Sheepdrove, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you an honest view and a quote.
What you get with us
- More than 20 years in sealant work
- Experience in homes, commercial sites and hotels
- Arbo and Everbuild products
- Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas

External mastic in Sheepdrove: local notes
With historic houses such as Ashdown House (about 3.9 miles west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Sheepdrove as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.
If you live in an older home near Church of St Michael and All Angels, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain.

Questions from Sheepdrove
Do you cover smaller places like Sheepdrove?
Yes. Sheepdrove is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Is external mastic in Sheepdrove guaranteed?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
Will there be a smell?
It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.
How long will you be here?
It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take a few hours for a handful of joints, longer for a whole elevation. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.
What colours does the sealant come in?
The sealant colour is picked to suit the wall. Exterior sealants come in a good range of colours.
Why is there a gap in my brick wall?
A vertical gap in a long brick wall is usually a movement joint. It gives the wall room to move, and it should be sealed with a flexible sealant.
Do you seal joints where cladding meets other materials?
Yes. Materials like render, brick, metal and uPVC all move differently, so a flexible sealant is needed where they meet. The sealant is matched to both sides.
