Bathroom resealing near Upper Dicker

Do you need bathroom resealing in Upper Dicker?

No sealant lasts indefinitely. Daily water, heat and cleaning products take their toll over the years, so its life depends on how the room is used, cleaned and aired.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Bede's Prep School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

What to look for in a quote

  • What product goes in the joint
  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • Are they insured?

How we handle bathroom resealing in Upper Dicker

Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Upper Dicker. We are fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and every job carries our one-year guarantee. We work on sinks & splashbacks, basins & vanity units and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are splits where the tray meets the wall and water escaping at the shower enclosure.

In a village or hamlet like Upper Dicker, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

All our work comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in East Sussex.

What affects the quote in Upper Dicker

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • The amount of work

Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We will give you a clear quote for the lot.

Helping us quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you are ready, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

What we can’t put right

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Failed grout lines across the wall
  • A tray or bath that’s cracked through
  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands

Should I try it myself first?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Different surfaces, different methods

Wet rooms

Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We reseal the joints and will tell you if the water seems to be coming from somewhere else.

Shower trays & enclosures

Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.

How it works

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included in most cases. Somewhere as small as Upper Dicker, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Move anything stored near the joints

Advice

Aftercare tips

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
  • Give the silicone its full cure time
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade

Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, which is generally around 24 hours. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

Watch for the early signs: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Upper Dicker

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

In the older streets around Holy Trinity, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. For landlords with property near Berwick (Sussex) station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.
