Hook Norton: your questions answered

Do you cover Hook Norton for bathroom resealing?

Yes, Hook Norton is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Is there a guarantee on bathroom resealing in Hook Norton?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, always, and completely. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes, by replacing the sealant. Sprays can fade the marks, but cutting it out and resealing is what lasts. Good ventilation helps keep it away.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes. The old sealant is cut out and the joint degreased, because cooking grease stops silicone sticking, then a colour-matched bead is laid.

Is white the only colour available?

You’re not limited to white: white, clear and colours to suit tiles and worktops. We’ll talk it through when we quote.

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

One bath or shower is around two hours’ work, old sealant removal included. A full bathroom and kitchen can take most of a day.

Do I need to be at home?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Hook Norton

A shower joint gets soaked every day. Trays, enclosures, screen profiles and wet room floors all need a flexible, waterproof seal. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, finished smooth so water drains away rather than collecting. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units, and people most often call us about leaking joints on a shower screen and shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop.

In and around Hook Norton, older properties sit alongside newer ones. Older homes can move a little with the seasons, which is hard on tired sealant and rigid grout.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee in Hook Norton and across Oxfordshire.

Aftercare tips

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Give the silicone its full cure time
  • Move toiletries away from the joint

In a kitchen, don’t let water sit along the back of the worktop. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

What sealant work cannot fix

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The size of the job
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How easy the joints are to reach

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Whether it has been sealed before

Hook Norton homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. Schools such as Hook Norton Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Surface by surface

Wet rooms

Wet rooms rely on sound joints at floor and wall junctions. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, working on the surface joints, not the tanking or drainage.

Shower trays & enclosures

Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

What we do, step by step

You don’t need to clear the whole room or building before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower in most cases. In a smaller place like Hook Norton, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
